"The next stage of the research will involve clinical trials in humans," the researchers said as quoted by Epharmapedia, Monday (09/01/2012).

The research team determined that dihydromyricetin may provide molecular targets and cellular mechanisms to counteract alcohol intoxication and dependence. Dihydromyricetin lead to new therapeutic treatments.

Alcohol use disorders are the most common form of substance abuse. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) alcoholism has affected over 76 million people around the world. It is estimated that only 13 percent of people identified as having alcohol use disorders who have received medical treatment.
